Text Box: Sound of Music Festival

It was the Burlington Jaycees that created what is know today as the Sound of Music Festival. It began in June of 1973 as the “Town & Country Fair”. This was the first year for the fair and it was run in co-operation with the City of Burlington. Conklin Shows ran the mid-way and were involved with the fair in years to come. Some of the Special Events were a Horse Show, Ronald McDonald Day and a Special Children’s Day. There were Helicopter rides as well. It was in 1975 that the first of many Rock Concert’s were held with this festival. In 1979 the name was changed to the Sound of Music Festival with the Burlington Jaycees playing a major part in the development of the Festival. Today the Sound of Music Festival is one of the top 50 best festivals in Ontario and attracts 50,000+ people annually to the City of Burlington.
